Arnos Vale Cemetery

Arnos Vale Cemetery located in Arnos Vale, Bristol, England, was founded in 1837, with its inaugural burial occurring in 1839.

Adopting a joint-stock model funded by shareholders, it was designed as an Arcadian landscape, featuring structures by Charles Underwood. The majority of its grounds are designated as Grade II* on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, signifying its exceptional historical significance in England.

Within the cemetery, several structures and monuments are listed, such as the Grade II designated Church of England mortuary chapel, Nonconformist mortuary chapel, entrance lodges and gates, as well as the screen walls at the main entrance.

Avonview Cemetery

Canford Cemetery

Canford Crematorium, situated within the Canford Cemetery site established in 1903 at Westbury on Trym, commenced its services to the North and West Bristol area in 1956. Owned and managed by Bristol City Council, the Chapel accommodates seating for up to 100 individuals.

Greenbank Cemetery

Greenbank Cemetery, established in 1871, became Bristol’s second major cemetery following Arnos Cemetery. Located in the northeastern section of the cemetery are memorials dedicated to civilians who perished during the Bristol Blitz.

The cemetery underwent two expansions, firstly in 1880 and then again in 1899.

At the heart of the cemetery grounds stand a pair of interconnected mortuary chapels, erected in 1871.

Henbury Cemetery

Henbury Cemetery is known for its tranquil and well-maintained grounds, providing a peaceful setting for remembrance and reflection.

The cemetery contains a variety of graves, including traditional burial plots and memorial gardens. It is a significant site for local history, with many graves dating back to the Victorian and Edwardian eras, offering insights into the social, cultural, and economic fabric of the region during those times.

Kingswood Remembrance Park

With its beautiful scenic views over South Gloucestershire, Kingswood Remembrance Park is a wonderful place to lay a loved one to rest. This cemetery opened in 2010 and it contains sections for traditional, lawn, infant and cremation memorials.

The scattering of ashes is not permitted in the cemetery grounds.

Mangotsfield Cemetery

Situated on the east side of Bristol, Mangotsfield Cemetery is the oldest cemetery maintained by South Gloucestershire Council. It has sections for traditional, lawn, cremation, and infant memorials, however there is now no more space for any new cremation memorials.

The cemetery also contains a Columbarium, which is a solution for the interment of ashes.

Mayshill Cemetery

The rural Mayshill Cemetery is located just outside of Bristol, and offers a peaceful space to pay tribute to a departed loved one. It was first established in 1973 and has sections for traditional, lawn and infant memorials.

There is also a Garden of Remembrance for the scattering of cremated remains.

Shirehampton Cemetery

Situated close to the River Avon, Shirehampton Cemetery has provided burial space since its opening in 1898. It is home to nine burials from the First World War and 13 from the Second World War.

South Bristol Cemetery

South Bristol Cemetery is located on the A38 at Bedminster Down, overlooking the River Avon and the Suspension Bridge.

South Bristol Crematorium was designed by the City Architect’s department, and opened in 1971. A Cemetery was also laid out, with the first interments taking place in 1974. It is managed by Bristol City Council.
